AMMAN — Her Majesty Queen Rania on Wednesday commended the Arab Potash Company’s (APC) support for community development projects in various areas across the Kingdom and its most recent partnership with the Madrasati initiative in a number of public schools in the south.

The Queen made the remarks during a meeting with APC Chairman Jamal Al Sarayrah, APC President/CEO Brent Heimann and APC Financial Manager Bisher Mahasneh, according to a statement from her office.

The meeting, which was attended by Queen Rania Foundation (QRF) CEO Haifa Al Attia and Madrasati Director Tala Sweis, took place after the company signed a three-year grant agreement with Madrasati.

The grant will go towards a project that aims at enhancing the learning environment through implementing a holistic, multi-dimensional intervention in 10 schools in the southern governorates of Karak, Tafileh and Maan, the statement said.

Sarayrah said the agreement is part of the company’s belief in the importance of the work carried out by Madrasati, which is in line with its corporate social responsibility priorities.

The agreement will build on a previous partnership with Madrasati which benefited 40 schools in the southern governorates.

Madrasati supports the work of the Ministry of Education through renovating public schools in urgent need of repair, and developing their infrastructure and introducing new educational programmes that aim to enrich the learning environment and benefit students, teachers and parents.

Queen Rania launched the Madrasati initiative in April 2008 with the aim of improving infrastructure in public schools in dire need of aid.

Through its five-phase framework, Madrasati has brought together different stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, as well as young volunteers and local communities.
