Qasr Tuba in Zarqa sees highest rainfall over past 24 hours

AMMAN — The Ministry of Water and Irrigation (MWI) on Tuesday said that the volume of rainfall so far this season accounts for 35.4 per cent of the annual average.

About 1.4 million cubic metres (mcm) of water has filled dams and valleys over the past 24 hours, mainly in the Tannur Dam in Tafileh, which received around 772,000 cubic metres, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The recent downpour over the past 24 hours has increased the total storage of Jordan’s dams by 48mcm, comprising 17 per cent of their total capacity of 280.76mcm, the ministry added. The highest precipitation over the past 24 hours was recorded in Qasr Tuba in the Zarqa Governorate, at 4.4mcm, according to the ministry.
