AMMAN — Public, military and UNRWA schools will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, under a decision announced on Tuesday by Education Minister Mohammad Thneibat, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The decision was taken to enable the Independent Election Commission to continue its work in the schools used as polling stations in Tuesday’s parliamentary elections.

A total of 1,483 polling centres have been equipped for the elections, wile 23 final vote counting and tabulation centres have been prepared.

Private schools, which were not used for the polls, will continue classes as usual.

Public and UNRWA schools were off on Sunday and Monday to make way for the IEC’s preparations for the polls, while Tuesday was a public holiday to mark the elections.

To make up for missed classes, public and UNRWA schools will be open on Saturdays from September 24 to October 15, while students at military schools will be attending classes on September 24 and October 1, Petra reported.
