PSD launches gender mainstreaming strategy in partnership with UN Women

AMMAN — The Public Security Directorate (PSD), in cooperation with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, on Sunday launched the PSD’s gender mainstreaming strategy for 2021-2024, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The strategy was developed based on the Jordanian national action plan to implement Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, security, peace, with the support of Canada, Norway, Finland, Spain and the UK.

The launching came in light of supporting Jordan in achieving its goal of becoming an Arab and global leader in public security service, integrating the concept of gender, building capacities and capabilities, and promoting the advancement of women in all services of the PSD.

Secretary General of the Jordanian National Committee for Women’s Affairs Salma Al Nims said that the PSD’s leadership in adopting a gender mainstreaming strategy is a “catalyst for change” in Jordan.

British Ambassador to Jordan Bridget Brind praised the PSD’s achievement, noting the UK is committed to supporting the Jordanian government in implementing its national action plan.

Representative of UN Women in Jordan Ziad Sheikh said that global evidence shows that the integration of the gender concept contributes to many principles of good governance of the security sector.

He praised the PSD’s commitment to consolidating the principle of mainstreaming and integrating gender into its operations by adopting this new strategy.
