AMMAN — The "Nursing Now" campaign was launched on February 27 by the Geneva University Hospital in Switzerland under the patronage of HRH Princess Muna and World Health Organisation (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday.

In an online televised speech, HRH Princess Muna, who is also the patron for Nursing and Midwifery in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and president of the Jordan Nursing Council (JNC), stressed the important role of nurses in supporting the health sector, commending the efforts exerted by countries to provide effective and quality care for people of all ages.

Princess Muna pointed out that progress can not be achieved in the field of health coverage or sustainable development goals without investing in the health sector workforce and recognising the pioneering work of nurses, Petra reported.

She stressed that she is "pleased to see that the nursing workforce is gaining a stronger voice", as their presence during the campaign demonstrates a message of political commitment at the highest level.

She noted also that they are committed to supporting and enhancing the profession and improving the quality of health services around the world.

For his part, Ghebreyesus emphasised that the campaign was launched as a long term project and not a one-day event.

Princess Muna also toured Geneva University Hospital, where she met with a number of nurses and visited a group of patients, Petra reported.
