AMMAN — HH Prince Mired, president of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), on Sunday met with EU Ambassador to Jordan, Maria Hadjitheodosiou.

Prince Mired expressed the council's gratitude for the European Union’s support for strengthening the social protection system for individuals with disabilities in Jordan, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Social protection for persons with disabilities is a primary focus of the council's work, given its significant impact on promoting their independent living through the development of inclusive day services. Prince Mired commended Hadjitheodosiou's efforts in supporting the collaborative institutional framework governing the sector.

He acknowledged her support in coordinating the implementation of the National Social Protection Strategy, in addition to her contributions to healthcare and economic empowerment for beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund, in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Labour.

He also expressed the council’s appreciation for her assistance in facilitating the transition from institutional care to integrated day services for persons with disabilities.

Hadjitheodosiou praised the council's role in providing technical support to various institutions for people with disabilities, enabling them to effectively carry out their responsibilities. She commended their efforts in raising awareness about the rights of persons with disabilities and promoting their inclusion in society.

In recognition of Hadjitheodosiou's dedication and support in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities, Prince Mired presented her with the council's plaque of appreciation.

The project to enhance social protection in Jordan aims to support the reform of the social protection system by improving and modernising quality and performance.
