Police working to identify body found in Ajloun well

AMMAN — Ajloun police on Thursday were trying to identify a woman whose body was found dumped in a well a day earlier, an official source said.

The victim, who is believed to be in her thirities, was found by passers-by who smelled something rotten near the well, Public Security Department Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi said.

Coroners rushed to the scene and pulled the victim from the 10-metre well in Ajloun, some 70km northwest of Amman, the police official added.

A second source said the coroners detected ligature marks on the victim’s hands and feet, concluding that it was a homicide.

A post-mortem examination conducted by a team of pathologists in Irbid, headed by Ali Shotar on Thursday, concluded that the victim died of multiple stab wounds and bruises to the head and different parts of the body that were caused by both sharp and blunt objects, a medical source said. 

“The pathologists estimated that the woman has been dead for at least one-to-three days,” the medical source told The Jordan Times.  

Sartawi said police are still trying to identify the woman by reviewing missing persons’ files.

“We are certain that once we identify the woman we will learn more about the circumstances surrounding her murder,” the police official added.
