AMMAN — Criminal Investigation Department personnel from the cybercrime section on Tuesday detained a suspect after receiving complaints from girls who said he was blackmailing and threatening them.
The Public Security Department’s media centre said the suspect used social media outlets to trap his victims, pretending to be an engineer and proposing to marry them.
After befriending them, he stole photos from their personal accounts and blackmailed them into sending him money, to which some of the girls agreed.
The centre tracked down the suspect — who already has a criminal record for fraud — and detained him.
The media centre said the suspect is unemployed and has no university degree.
