AMMAN — Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of 28 people in connection with riots that erupted in Qweismeh in Amman on Monday.
“We have rounded up 28 people who set tyres ablaze and resisted arrest in various parts of Qweismeh neighbourhood,” Public Security Department Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
The police official said that authorities had launched a campaign to arrest wanted suspects “but we were met with resistance by some individuals”.
“Several people set tyres ablaze and placed rocks in the streets to prevent the gendarmerie forces from advancing,” Sartawi said.
The spokesperson said 28 individuals were arrested and referred to the concerned authorities for prosecution.
Sartawi confirmed that the situation is back to normal in Qweismeh.
“We will continue our security campaigns in the neighbourhood and these kinds of actions will never deter us,” Sartawi stressed.
