PM urges united Jordanian position on Gaza war

AMMAN — Jordanians must remain united in their position on the Israeli war on Gaza and should not exchange blame or accusations while forgetting the actual perpetrator of the attacks, Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said Sunday.

At a Cabinet meeting to discuss the fallout that the Gaza Strip is witnessing as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression, Ensour said Jordan is not part of the problem and is using all diplomatic channels to reach a solution.

“Jordan will do what is required no matter what the price,” the Jordan News Agency, Petra, quoted him as saying.

Commenting on demands to recall Jordan’s ambassador to Tel Aviv, he said the envoy is there to serve the interests of the people of the West Bank, whose only passage is through Jordan, and it is the same route for their goods, medicine and travel. This also applies to Arab Israelis and residents of the Gaza Strip.

“If recalling the ambassador would alleviate the suffering of Gaza, we would do it right away,” he said.

Ensour expressed Jordan’s condemnation of the Israeli massacres and the collective and indiscriminate killing in Gaza, stressing the Kingdom’s position that calls for ending the Israeli offensive.

He underscored Jordan’s political and diplomatic efforts under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah to stop the aggression and secure Israel’s withdrawal from all Palestinian territories.

Ensour noted that all the people of Jordan have the same stand regarding the “brutal and vicious attack on Gaza”, noting that the position of the Council of Ministers, the media and the Jordanian people is known to all.
