AMMAN — Prime Minister Bisher Al Khasawneh on Monday tested positive for COVID-19, according to Minister of State for Media Affairs Faisal Shboul.
A test conducted earlier Monday for the premier, who is in Egypt on an official visit, came back positive, said Shboul, who is also the government spokesperson, noting that Khasawneh is asymptomatic, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The visit programme has been changed, Shboul added, and the scheduled official meetings have been cancelled, including a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, during which the prime minister was scheduled to deliver a message from His Majesty King Abdullah to Sisi, and a meeting of the Jordanian-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee. Under the established health protocol, the prime minister will self-quarantine upon his return to the Kingdom, Shboul said.
