AMMAN — The Jordanian Physical Therapy Association has secured full membership in the European Union of Medical Specialists and the European Board of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, making Jordan the first Arab member in the organisations’ history.

Speaking with The Jordan Times on Sunday, Ali Atoum, who represented the association during the recent meetings in Zagreb, said that the association was officially recognised as a member on April 1 after the association submitted all necessary documents and held important discussions.

“It is truly both a national and scientific achievement,” Atoum added.

Atoum, who is a European Board certified doctor, added that obtaining such a membership offers exposure to innovative information and resources, and supports Jordanian doctors specialising in physical medicine during their medical careers, as well as further enhancing Jordan’s reputation in the medical field.

The Kingdom’s healthcare sector is known for its high-quality services, and is regarded as a regional leader in the field, Atoum said, adding that this additional membership will only reinforce the country’s position in the Middle East.

Jordanian doctors who wish to specialise in physical medicine and rehabilitation will be able to take the exam starting in 2024, and they will be able do so once they have completed the required number of years of accredited postgraduate training, met all procedural requirements and obtained the Jordanian Board certification.

According to Ali Rjoub, President of the Jordanian Physical Therapy Association, the association has provided all files relevant to the Kingdom’s physical therapy and rehabilitation field.

“This membership helps Jordanian doctors share their experiences with their European counterparts,” Rjoub noted.
