AMMAN — The number of Jordanian students currently studying at institutions across the US remained steady in 2017, nearly matching last year’s record, according to an annual report by the Institute of International Education, with support from the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The “Open Doors” report for 2016/2017 showed that there were some 2,312 Jordanian students in the US during the most recent academic year for which data is available, the US embassy in Amman said in a statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times on Tuesday.

This number, which does not include the students with Jordanian/American dual citizenship, represents less than a 1 per cent decrease from 2015/2016. Jordan continues to rank 8th in the MENA region for number of students in the US. There are about 970 American students at institutions in Jordan this year, a slight decrease from last year’s numbers, the statement said.
