AMMAN — The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) celebrated this week the graduation of the 1,000th Syrian refugee student from the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) certified training course.

The ICDL course is implemented in NRC’s Youth Training Centres and supported by UNICEF and the Norwegian foreign ministry, according to an NRC statement released Monday.

The programme provides an internationally accredited IT course seeking to enhance the skills and capabilities of Syrian youths in the three refugee camps in Jordan.

“The ICDL, which is the most popular course among young refugees in the camps, aims at bridging the digital gap between youth in the camps and their peers abroad, creating an academic path for them, and providing them with the skills that give them the chance to give back to their communities,” the statement quoted Paul Fean, the youth project manager of the NRC, as saying.
