RAMTHA — Water Minister Hazem Nasser on Thursday opened Al Mahasi Water Desalination Station in Ramtha.
US Ambassador to Jordan Alice G. Wells, UNHCR Representative to Jordan Andrew Harper, Mercy Corps Country Director Robert Maroni, and Water Authority of Jordan Secretary General Tawfiq Habashneh attended the ceremony.
Nasser said the station will improve the quality of water and wastewater services in the northern region.
The project, he added, is part of a larger one to revamp five water pumping stations in Irbid and Mafraq at a cost of $2.3 million — and with the support of the UNHCR, the US, Mercy Corps and Yarmouk Water Company — to benefit 200,000 residents in the north.
Nasser added that Al Mahasi station will serve more than 36,000 residents in Ramtha.
