Nahno platform instills spirit of volunteering across Kingdom

AMMAN — Nahno volunteer platform has logged a grand total of 175,000 volunteer hours by 12,000 volunteers since its launch in 2018, according to its operations director.

Launched in partnership with Naua organisation, UNICEF and the Crown Prince Foundation in cooperation with the Youth Ministry, Nahno, with its 27,000 registered profiles, encourages volunteer work and youth participation by providing opportunities across the Kingdom, Operations Director Khaled Abu Ajwa said.

One of Nahno’s 2019 campaigns was “Eye on the Future”, which saw the participation of around 700 volunteers who helped raise Tawjihi students’ awareness on how to choose a university major that fits their skills and interests, Abu Ajwa told The Jordan Times on Monday over the phone.

The campaign was implemented in Amman, Zarqa, Irbid and Aqaba, Abu Ajwa said, noting that the volunteers helped with the organisation and logistics of the campaign’s event.

Another campaign, “Let’s Beautify our Schools”, saw the participation of nearly 500 volunteers, who revamped and decorated around 120 public schools, the operations director said.

“Let’s Beautify our Schools” began at the end of August 2019, Abu Ajwa said, recalling: “Local residents in the different areas where the campaign was held took care of the volunteers and nourished them while they did the work.”

One of the campaigns saw the planting of trees on the Jordan University of Science and Technology campus, with the participation of 230 students, who also held awareness sessions on agricultural matters and climate change, the director said.

A campaign that focused on Irbid governorate in particular, “Leave a Trace”, saw the participation of 200 volunteers who helped spread a culture of volunteering through supporting a project titled “my governorate” to deliver workshops on youth participation in community service. 

On December 5, 6 and 7, 2019, Nahno celebrated International Volunteering Day by holding “Jordan Volunteering Days”, which included a competition, exhibition, summit and training workshops, all organised with the help of around 230 volunteers, most of whom were university students, according to Abu Ajwa.

“Nahno also has clean-up, sports and relief campaigns which distribute winter packages,” Abu Ajwa said. 

He also highlighted the platform’s art-focused activities, such as painting murals in public places, in addition to campaigns for teaching chess.
