Municipalities’ financial reform plan discussed

By JT - Aug 08,2018 - Last updated at Aug 08,2018

AMMAN — Cities and Villages Development Bank Director General Osama Azzam said that cumulative debts of municipalities reached some JD43 million. During a meeting with journalists of the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Azzam attributed such figure to weak collecting mechanism and high expenditure of salaries and allowances at the expense of implementing investments.

He referred to starting the implementation of a reform plan that can help rearrange expenditure priorities at municipalities and distribute their resources in a way that serves investment and development aspects that can generate and sustain revenues. The director noted that the bank’s policies do not allow exemptions of financial dues of municipalities, noting that the government paid some debts of municipalities with limited resources and revenues.
