AMMAN — The Lower House on Monday approved the agreement for the rehabilitation, expansion, and operation of Queen Alia International Airport.
The “Airport Operation Agreement” between the Jordanian government, represented by the Ministry of Transport, and the International Airport Group Company for 2024 had been referred to the Parliamentary Committee of Public Services and Transport in a previous session for examination.
The government had submitted the draft agreement to the House under “urgency status”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The draft agreement aims to bolster the Kingdom’s investment climate and ensure operational stability in the aviation and air cargo sector, in accordance with Article 117 of the Jordanian Constitution.
Also on Monday, the Lower House referred the 2024 amendments to the Amman Municipality Law to a joint administrative and legal committee, after its first reading, for review.
The draft law aims to develop an urban planning framework for Amman and restructure procedures related to planning regulations, building codes, land division, acquisition, and development rights, according to Petra.
The sixth article of the amended law saw a heated discussion under the Dome. The article stipulates that the seizure of assets belonging to the Greater Amman Municipality, both movable and immovable, is prohibited unless a final court ruling against the municipality is obtained.
