AMMAN — More than 60 per cent of deaths in Jordan are caused by chronic diseases, according to Health Ministry Secretary General Daifallah Lozi.
Attending the launch of an initiative that encourages physical activity as a cure for Jordanians, he noted that the campaign was initiated in response to studies conducted by the ministry in cooperation with the World Health Organisation.
The studies also showed that more than half of Jordanian adults are overweight and suffer from obesity and low physical activity, making them more vulnerable to high blood pressure, diabetes and heart diseases, according to Lozi.
President of the initiative Sufian Maghaida said the campaign will encourage doctors and health workers to incorporate exercise into the treatment plan for patients.
