Labour Ministry inspectors assaulted while on duty

AMMAN — The Labour Ministry on Friday denounced assaults against its inspectors while on duty, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The personnel were inspecting coffee shops and restaurants for illegal guest workers when they were assaulted, Labour Ministry Spokesperson Mohammad Khatib told Petra, adding that inspection campaigns are scheduled to continue in accordance with the law since there are more than 100,000 guest workers with agricultural job permits, 80 per cent of whom work illegally in other fields.

The assaulted personnel were taken to a hospital and then filed complaints to the authorities, Khatib said, adding that an investigation is ongoing to arrest the assailants.
