Kingdom renews call for political solution in Syria

AMMAN — Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Monday reiterated Jordan’s “clear” and “fixed” stance vis-à-vis the Syrian crisis, which calls for a political solution that ensures the unity and cohesion of Syria.
At a meeting with the UN secretary general’s special envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, Judeh voiced the Kingdom’s support to the envoy’s mission, citing the humanitarian impact of the situation in Syria on Jordan, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He noted that the Kingdom has exerted all its efforts to provide Syrian refugees with their basic needs, calling on the international community to bear its responsibility towards Jordan to enable it to continue its humanitarian role.
Judeh also cited the Kingdom’s attempts to resolve the Syrian crisis through its membership in UN Security Council.
He highlighted the role Amman played in adopting the UN Resolution 2165, which is concerned with the entry of humanitarian assistance to Syria.
For his part, Mistura expressed his appreciation of the role the Kingdom is playing at all levels to bring an end to the bloodshed in Syria and ensure the peaceful return of refugees to their country.
