King urges prevention policies in fight against corruption

AMMAN — The new president of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Abed Kharabsheh, took the oath of office before His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday.

Abdul Hadi Alawin, Burhan Akrosh, Saber Rawashdeh, Talal Shurufat and Fairouz Amr were also sworn in as members of the ACC board as of Sunday, according to a Royal Court statement.

Following the ceremony, held at the Husseiniya Palace, King Abdullah said that Jordan has considerably improved its ranking on the Corruption Perceptions Index as a result of ACC efforts since its establishment.

The Monarch also highlighted the importance of building on the previous achievements of the commission and moving forward with its plans to yield results that citizens can feel and to become an advanced model for the region in fighting corruption.

His Majesty also referred to the important role of ACC in preventing graft before happening, which requires cooperation and coordination between the agency and all relevant institutions, according to the statement.

The King also reiterated his full support for the commission as it seeks to upgrade the skills of its personnel and expand its role in enhancing transparency, which, he said, is considered a key element in the comprehensive national reform process.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh and King’s Office Director Jaafar Hassan also attended the ceremony.
