King, Swedish premier discuss cooperation, peace drive

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday discussed bilateral relations and regional developments with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and the accompanying delegation, a Royal Court statement said.

At the meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace, His Majesty stressed Jordan's keenness to enhance bilateral ties with Sweden in various fields.

The King called for building on the discussions that were held between the two countries' prime ministers earlier on Sunday, and benefitting from the investment opportunities available in Jordan, especially in the energy, information technology and electronics sectors.

He praised the “vital role” played by Sweden at the London donor conference along with other countries and Stockholm’s support for Jordan to continue performing its humanitarian duties towards Syrian refugees.

During the talks, which continued over a banquet held in honour of the visiting official, the King and Löfven went over regional and international developments. His Majesty expressed hope in the success of efforts exerted by international community members, including Sweden, which has recently achieved a temporary membership at the UN Security Council, to find solutions to conflicts in the Middle East and the rest of the world.  

They stressed the importance of intensifying the international efforts, within a holistic strategy, to confront extremism and terrorism and face its “gangs”, which target the global security and safety. For his part, Löfven expressed his country’s appreciations of Jordan’s efforts to achieve peace in the region.

The prime minister stressed his country’s support for the Kingdom in confronting terrorism and in providing humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees.

Prime Minister Hani Mulki, Water Minister Hazem Nasser, Swedish Ambassador to Jordan Helena Gröndahl Rietz and King’s Office Director Jafar Hassan attended the meeting.
