AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday sent a cable to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, congratulating him on his accession to the throne.

"I am absolutely confident that you will continue — with wisdom, competence, diligence and loyalty — to lead the march towards development and achievement in your brotherly country and to achieve prosperity for your dear people," the King said in the cable, according to a Royal Court statement.

His Majesty said the march towards further achievements was entrenched by King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, who passed away early Friday.

The Monarch also expressed his confidence that the new leader will continue working to boost Arab solidarity and activate cooperation among the peoples of the Arab and Islamic nation, in a manner that contributes to confronting the challenges and threats it is facing.

He also expressed his pride in the cooperation and strong relations that connect Jordan and Saudi Arabia, which reflect deep-rooted ties between the two kingdoms.

The King stressed Jordan’s commitment to pursuing coordination and consultations on the various issues that concern "our nation and brotherly peoples" in a manner that activates joint Arab action, protects the "Ummah's" interests and serves its "just causes".

The King extended his best wishes to King Salman and the Saudi people, to enjoy further progress and prosperity, under the new leader's wise leadership.

King Abdullah sent similar cables to Crown Prince Muqrin Bin Abdulaziz on his appointment as Saudi Arabia’s crown prince and deputy prime minister, and to Prince Mohammad Bin Nayef on his appointment as deputy crown prince, second deputy prime minister and interior minister.

He also sent a similar cable to Prince Mohammad Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz on his appointment as defence minister, chief of the Saudi royal court and king's adviser.

In the cables, His Majesty stressed the strong relations between the two brotherly countries and his commitment to boosting cooperation.
