AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Friday received a phone call from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the latest regional developments and the Middle East peace process.

Abbas acquainted His Majesty with the outcome of the recent diplomatic measures he took to push the peace process forward, according to a Royal Court statement.

King Abdullah stressed Jordan's support for efforts aimed at resuming serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis according to the two-state formula, "the only solution to the conflict".

The two leaders talked over the phone again on Saturday, when Abbas informed His Majesty of a recent phone call he received from US President Donald Trump.

Reuters quoted Friday Abbas’ spokesman Nabil Abu Rdainah as saying that Trump had invited the Palestinian leader to the White House during the phone call.

"President Trump has extended an official invitation to President Abbas to visit the White House soon to discuss ways to resume the political process, stressing his commitment to a peace process that will lead to a real peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis," Reuters qouted Abu Rdainah as saying.

His Majesty also received a phone call form Spanish King Felipe VI on Friday, during which both monarchs discussed means to enhance Jordanian-Spanish relations and the latest developments in the region, according to a Royal Court statement.
