AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday directed the government to provide support to UNRWA to enable it to continue providing relief services for the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip in light of the dangerous deterioration in the humanitarian situation there and the rising need for these services.
Upon the Royal directives, the government is transferring JD3 million to UNRWA immediately, according to a Royal Court statement.
The agency had announced it urgently requires $104 million for its humanitarian response in Gaza over the next 90 days, covering food, health, shelter, and protection needs for over 250,000 people seeking refuge in UNRWA shelters in Gaza, as well as 250,000 other Palestinian refugees.
His Majesty had directed the government to dispatch humanitarian and medical aid to Palestinians in Gaza through the Rafah crossing in full coordination with Egypt, and to identify the needs of the Palestinians in the West Bank and address them as soon as possible.
