AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, on Sunday commended the efforts of the Public Security Directorate’s (PSD) Forensic Laboratories Department, stressing its important role in serving citizens.

During a visit to the department, King Abdullah, accompanied by PSD Director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh, expressed pride in the high professionalism of its personnel, whose efforts contribute to safeguarding society’s security, according to a Royal Court statement.

His Majesty highlighted the need to utilise the latest technologies in detecting crimes and serving justice, calling for keeping up with international experiences to enhance performance.

The King was briefed on the latest and most advanced technologies in the department, which is one of the leading departments of its kind in the region, and is key in maintaining criminal justice.

The department is equipped with the latest technology and equipment to analyse biological and chemical evidence, in addition to a section for the professional training of K9 dogs.

Last year, the PSD formed the first female crime scene investigation team, due to the sensitive nature of some cases related to families and juveniles.

His Majesty toured a number of labs, including the ballistics, chemistry, and fingerprints labs. These labs, which have recently entered service, have helped increase crime detection rates.

For his part, Maj. Gen. Hawatmeh said the PSD is keen on providing the Forensic Laboratories Department with the latest equipment and facilities, while enhancing the capacities and professionalism of the department’s personnel, in order to provide quality service to the public.
