AMMAN — On this year’s International Day of Conscience, which is observed annually on April 5, Secretary-General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs Abdullah Kanaan issued a call to action urging important figures in law, media and culture around the world to use their conscience to support the Palestinian people. According to Kanaan, international days and events should be used as a means of promoting justice, spreading goodwill and countering advocates of evil and colonialism, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The aim of this day is to promote peace, tolerance and harmony worldwide, Kanaan said. The official also emphasised that the Jordanian people and the Hashemite leadership, with its historical Custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, support the right of the Palestinian people to their historical and legal rights in their independent state, with Jerusalem as its capital. During the 73rd  session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2019, April 5 was designated the International Day of Conscience.
