AMMAN — The King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) is considering expanding the use of virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence and cybersecurity in the arms and ammunition industry, KADDB Director General Maj. Gen. Muhammad Farghal said on Friday.

In press remarks on the sidelines of the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2019), which was held in Istanbul between Monday and Friday, Farghal said that the bureau had established an academy to activate the use of cybersecurity and already has a VR lab.

The director noted that Jordan was the only Arab country participating the fair, which “provided an opportunity to communicate with decision makers in the defence industry from various countries”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He added that the expo was also the right venue to attract investment, enter new partnerships and enhance commercial ties at the regional and international levels.

KADDB held a pavilion inside the fair that showcased several military products, which reflected the bureau’s capabilities in the defence industry field, in addition to showcasing defence systems, which included real products and miniature prototypes that simulated the real product in terms of shape and specifications.

As for the products of companies affiliated with KADDB, they responded to the needs of clients from various sectors, such as machinery, weapons, ammunition and electro-optics used by various forces.

The bureau also showcased a set of vests and bulletproof helmets, in addition to prototypes of Wahsh, Marid, Faris, Ghazal and the fourth generation of the Jawad vehicles, along with machinery and systems that are used for national security and counterterrorism purposes.

The participation of KADDB and its affiliated companies was aimed at marketing the bureau’s projects and companies’ products, in addition to highlighting the KADDB’s capabilities and attracting investments from international defence system manufacturers.
