AMMAN — Around 200 Jordanians demonstrated in downtown Amman on Friday in support of civilians who have been stranded in Aleppo and face abject conditions due to Syria’s ongoing unrest.
Demonstrators attended the Friday sermon and performed noon prayer at Al Husseini Mosque in downtown Amman before starting their march, organised by the Islamist movement in Jordan.
Some participants waved the Syrian resistance flag while others held placards with slogans like “Save Aleppo”, “Russia kills Muslim in Syria”, “your silence is killing us,” and “Aleppo exterminated”.
Islamist Ali Abul Sukkar described what is happening in Aleppo as a “systematic demolition and an extermination”.
He charged that the international community is conspiring to destroy the revolution in Syria.
Azzam Al Hnaidi, also an Islamist, said the demonstration was held in support of the Syrian revolution in Syria.
“Syrians demanded dignity and freedom through their revolution, and they wanted to be liberated from corruption and the lack of justice. I am sure that this revolution will achieve its goals,” he told The Jordan Times as he walked alongside protesters.
Mohammad Kanaan, another protester, said he wanted to challenge Arab leaders into breaking their silence as the Syrian people are suffering under continuous shelling and barrel bombs.
“The scenes I have seen from Aleppo have made me lose faith in the Arab nation,” he said.
