Jordanians detained by Israel following shooting incident return home – ministry

AMMAN — Jordanian citizens Musleh Oudat and Hussein Neimat, who were detained following a shooting incident on the Palestinian side of the Israeli-controlled King Hussein Bridge on September 8, have returned to the Kingdom, the Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.

Ministry Spokesperson Sufian Qudah stressed the ministry’s efforts in monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant Jordanian authorities to ensure the citizens’ swift return, according to a ministry statement.

Qudah said that both individuals have entered Jordanian territory, are in good health, and are on their way to reunite with their families, the statement added.

Maher Jazi was reportedly involved in the shooting incident on September 8 at the King Hussein Bridge crossing with the occupied West Bank.

The ministry had earlier described the shooting incident as an “individual act”, underlying the Kingdom's rejection of targeting civilians for “whatsoever reasons.”

The Israeli military said in a statement that the driver "exited the truck and opened fire at Israeli security forces operating at the bridge."

The King Hussein Bridge crossing is the only international gateway for Palestinians from the West Bank that does not require entering Israel, which has occupied the territory since 1967.
