Jordanian, Saudi FMs' talks centre on advancing ties, regional developments

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday received Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan.

Safadi and Prince Faisal held comprehensive talks focused on steps and programmes implemented by the two kingdoms towards advancing cooperation in various fields, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The two ministers discussed means to institutionalise cooperation in the economic, investment, development and environment related fields, as well as measures to bolster coordination and communication over regional issues in the service of common interests.

In the context of coordination, the two sides reviewed regional developments and efforts towards ending regional crises and maintaining regional security and stability.

Talks focused on efforts geared towards achieving a comprehensive and fair peace through resolving the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution and in accordance with international law and the Arab peace initiative, to meet all legitimate rights of Palestinians, notably their right to statehood and freedom and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Discussions covered efforts towards finding a political solution to the crisis in Yemen and the Gulf region's security, during which Safadi stressed Jordan's support for Saudi Arabia and condemnation of Houthi attacks.

The two ministers referred to the developments related to resolving the Syrian and Libyan crises, supporting Iraq, the conditions in Afghanistan and developments in international talks with Iran on the nuclear issue.

Safadi and Prince Faisal also discussed Iran's role and policies in the region, among other regional and international issues of mutual concern. 

In joint press remarks followed the meeting, Safadi said that the talks emphasised the centrality of the Jordanian-Saudi relations, noting that mutual ties are moving towards a broader aspect of cooperation and coordination.   

Safadi also expressed appreciation for Saudi efforts in support of Jordan, highlighting that the security and stability of the two kingdoms is intertwined, voicing Amman's rejection of all terrorist attacks that target Saudi Arabia.  

He also commended Saudi efforts towards ending the crisis in Yemen. 

Safadi also expressed Jordan's support for Saudi Arabia's bid to host Expo 2030.

Prince Faisal highlighted the keenness of the two kingdoms' leaderships on supporting the economic and development fields, as well as the two peoples welfare.

He also valued Jordan's stances in support of the Palestinian cause, expressing appreciation for Amman's role in rejecting all terrorist attacks against his country.
