Jordanian passport guarantees visa-free access to 45 countries

AMMAN — The Jordanian passport has been ranked 83rd in the world out of 94 passports, with its holders enjoying visa-free access to 45 countries, according to the 2014 Henley & Partners Visa Restrictions Index.

The index, which is an annual global ranking of countries based on the freedom of travel enjoyed by their citizens, said the passports of Jordan and Comoros tied for 12th place at the Arab level.

The Kuwaiti passport topped the list at the Arab level, as its holders can enter 78 countries without a visa, according to the index, a copy of which was e-mailed to The Jordan Times on Monday.

The United Arab Emirates passport came second at the Arab level with access to 77 countries without visas, followed by Qatar (75 countries), Bahrain (69), Oman (66), Saudi Arabia (65), Tunisia (62), Morocco (55), Mauritania (55), Egypt (48) and Algeria (46).

At the global level, Finland, Germany, Sweden, the UK, and the US ranked jointly in first place as holders of the passports of these countries can access 174 countries without a visa.

Henley & Partners, which said the index was prepared in cooperation with the International Air Transport Association, ranked Afghanistan’s passport at the bottom of the list (94th place) for granting its holders access to 28 countries without visas.

The Iraqi passport, whose holders have to access 31 countries without the need for visas, was ranked 93rd. 

According to the index, the Syrian passport, which ensures visa-free access to 38 countries, came in 89th place.
