Jordan to train Saudis in uranium mining — JAEC

AMMAN — The King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE) on Sunday announced the launch of a national personnel development programme in uranium mining.

The one-year Uranium Mining Project, in cooperation with the Jordanian Atomic Energy Commission and Jordanian Uranium Mining Company, will train Saudis in the exploration of uranium ore, uranium oxide development and feasibility studies.

The first batch of Saudi trainees to Jordan will include 13 specialists, according to a statement sent to The Jordan Times.

The Uranium Mining Project is one of Saudi Arabia’s National Atomic Energy Project’s components to provide sustainable national development outlined in the Saudi Vision 2030 plan.

President of KACARE Khalid Sultan stressed the importance of the exchange of expertise and experience between Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

In 2017, Jordan and Saudi Arabia signed agreements to cooperate in uranium exploration and carry out a feasibility study into the construction of two small modular reactors in Jordan.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed by KACARE and the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission at that time. Saudi Arabia and Jordan signed a nuclear cooperation agreement in January of 2014.
