AMMAN — Interior Minister Hussein Majali on Monday stressed the Jordan Armed Forces' (JAF) ability to protect the Kingdom's borders and affirmed their readiness to deal with any security threats.
During an inspection visit to the 2nd battalion of the special desert brigade deployed in the Eastern Badia, Majali underlined the Kingdom's full preparedness to stand firm against any attempts to undermine its security and sovereignty, adding that the JAF and other security bodies are in full control of Jordan's borders.
A Public Security Department (PSD) statement quoted Majali as saying that the Kingdom has not yet dealt with any security incidents on its eastern border with crisis-stricken Iraq.
The minister was accompanied by PSD Director Gen. Tawfiq Tawalbeh, Gendarmerie Department Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Sweilmin and Civil Defence Department Director Lt. Gen. Talal Kofahi.
Tawalbeh presented a briefing on the newly established special desert brigade, outlining its future training and mission plans.
He said the battalion is deployed in badia regions near borders in a manner that supports Border Guards in their mission, the statement said.
Majali and Tawalbeh also visited the Karama crossing on the Jordanian-Iraqi border, where they were briefed on the situation in the northeastern outpost.
