Jordan receives in-kind medical grant from India

AMMAN — Jordan on Tuesday received an in-kind grant of medicine and vaccines from India worth $5 million.

Health Minister Ghazi Zaben, who received the grant from Indian Ambassador to Jordan Shubhdarshini Tripathi, said that the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries’ health ministers constitutes an institutional framework for developing health cooperation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Zaben expressed his gratitude towards the Indian government and people for the grant.

For her part, Tripathi said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the grant in March 2018 during His Majesty King Abdullah’s visit to India.

Health Ministry Spokesperson Hatem Azrui added that the health cooperation memo, which was signed during the King’s visit to India, included enhancing cooperation in the health, medical sciences and education, pharmaceutical research, medical appliances, comprehensive health coverage and health governance fields.

King Abdullah’s state visit to India culminated in the signing of 12 cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding in various fields, including customs, defence, phosphate, culture, health, medical sciences, labour and media.

A memorandum of understanding between the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the University of Jordan was also signed during the visit, as well as two memos in medical sciences and labour.
