Jordan, Iraq sign security cooperation agreement

AMMAN — Jordan and Iraq on Sunday signed a security agreement on border protection, counterterrorism and intelligence capacity building.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of a meeting between Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat and the Iraqi Defence Minister Irfan Hayali, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The agreement aims at exchanging expertise and information on border protection, improving intelligence capabilities, holding joint military exercises, research and technology development, combating all forms of terrorism, training and development in addition to strengthening field capabilities.
During the meeting, Freihat discussed with Hayali and the accompanying delegation bilateral relations and means to enhance them in all fields, according to Petra.
The agreement signing was attended by a number of senior security officers and the Baghdad Ambassador in Amman Safia Al Suhail, Petra reported.
