Jordan, Iraq discuss water cooperation

AMMAN — Water and Irrigation Minister Ali Ghezawi on Wednesday discussed cooperation and expertise exchange with his Iraqi counterpart Hassan Janabi, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During the meeting, Ghezawi stressed Jordan’s keenness on providing Jordanian expertise related to developing Iraq’s infrastructure, water services and the sanitation system.
The minister outlines the Kingdom’s water challenges including scarcity due to low rainfall rates, the influx of Syrian refugees and energy, noting that Jordan has shown “successful” water management.
For his part, Janabi reviewed water sector’s situation in Iraq, especially the low storage volume due to the regional instability. A number of Jordanian and Iraqi relevant officials attended the meeting.
