Jordan-India Friendship Society celebrates Kingdom’s Independence Day

AMMAN — The Jordan-India Friendship Society on Sunday celebrated the Kingdom’s 69th Independence Day by sharing joint memories and achievements at a ceremony at the University of Jordan. 

HRH Princess Wijdan Al Hashemi and India’s Ambassador Anil Trigunayat drew attention to the similarities between the two countries, such as gaining independence from British rule, and the current challenges they face. 

Stressing the importance of independence and the need to preserve peace to achieve progress and prosperity, Trigunayat recalled the words of His Majesty the late King Hussein. 

“Nothing is more useless in developing a nation’s economy than a gun, and nothing blocks the road to social development more than the financial burden of war.”  

“War is the arch enemy of national progress,” he quoted King Hussein as saying. 

University students who attended the event said it helped them develop a clearer picture of Jordan and its relations with other countries.

“I did not know much about India and Jordan, and I am here to explore cultural exchange between Jordan and other countries, so we were lucky to attend this event,” 19-year old Emily Feuka commented.

A photo exhibition, highlighting joint achievements and the progress of Jordanian-Indian relations, was held on the sidelines of the event.
