Jordan hosts int’l nuclear research reactors conference

AMMAN — The International Conference on the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Research Reactors kicked off on Monday under the theme “a chance to visit the Jordan Research and Training Reactor [JRTR]”, featuring 220 researchers from 40 countries visiting to present their new research.
On behalf of Prime Minister Omar Razzaz, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati inaugurated the conference organised by the International Group on Research Reactors in cooperation with the European Conference on Research Reactors.
During the ceremony, Zawati reviewed the Kingdom’s latest developments in the field including producing radioactive isotopes from the JRTR, as well as the Synchrotron-Light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East’s experience in pressing ahead with the infrared spectroscopy plan, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
It is the first time that this conference, hosted by the Jordanian Atomic Energy Commission, is organised in an Arab country.
