AMMAN — Jordan’s permanent representative to the United Nations on Thursday said Jordan has real, direct and higher national interests in the peace process, highlighting the importance of the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli negotiations that have a time frame to lead to the two-state solution.
In an address during a UN Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, Kawar said peace is not just an optional choice, but the option. She stressed the importance of creating conducive conditions for the resumption of serious and comprehensive negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
The envoy stressed the importance of removing all obstacles that preclude the re-start of talks, which, she said, should lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state within the pre-1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Kawar said Jordan will pursue its contacts with key powers and continue to exert all efforts, through all means possible, to forge an international consensus on a negotiations’ framework.
