AMMAN — The government on Thursday condemned the Israeli occupation authorities for allowing Jewish extremists and settlers to storm Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif under the protection of their forces, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said Jordan rejects such actions that provoke Muslims around the world and urged Israel to halt them immediately.
Momani, who is also the government's spokesperson, called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and make Israel, the occupation force, abide by international laws, especially regarding East Jerusalem.
The minister said that such acts hinder the reconciliation process and undermine international efforts to revive the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations based on the two-state solution.
Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, will continue its efforts to defend the Arab identity of Jerusalem and preserve the city's sanctuaries, he concluded.
