Jordan commends Armenia’s recognition of Palestine

AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday welcomed the decision of the Republic of Armenia to recognise the State of Palestine.

The ministry considered the Armenian step important, reflecting its adherence to international law principles and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

Also on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi held a telephone conversation with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, during which he expressed Jordan's appreciation for Armenia's decision to recognise the State of Palestine.

Safadi emphasised that Armenia’s recognition of Palestine aligns with international law, justice, and peace, adding that a just and comprehensive peace cannot be achieved without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the June 4, 1967 borders in accordance with the two-state solution.

The ministers also discussed efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza and illegal actions taken against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

They also expressed concern about attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, including the Armenian Church and its properties.

Safadi also warned of the dangers of the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza and the serious consequences of its illegal actions in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem.

The two ministers affirmed the necessity of respecting and applying international law.

Safadi and Mirzoyan also discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in various fields, the ministry statement added.

Following the Armenian decision, the number of countries recognising Palestine as a state reaches 149 out of 193 nations at the UN General Assembly, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
