AMMAN — Jordan has called for changes to the ways the UN Security Council (UNSC) carries out its mandate in a way that renders the international body more effective and able to address global threats.
In her remarks at a meeting to discuss the UNSC’s work mechanisms, Jordan’s representative, Dina Kawar, said the council must modify its work mechanisms in a way that makes it more responsive to international challenges and swifter in addressing them.
She cited the
UNSC’s failure so far to find a solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Syrian crisis as examples of issues that remain unsolved, causing increasing suffering to the peoples in the Middle East.
She called for more transparency and coordination with the UN General Assembly and International Criminal Court.
