AMMAN - The 30th Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts opened at the ancient Greco-Roman city, 48km north of Amman, on Thursday.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, attended the opening ceremony.

Several leading Jordanian and Arab artists will participate in festival activities including celebrity singers like Lebanon's Wael Kfoury, and Kuwaiti Abdullah Rowaished, in addition to Jordan's Omar Abdallat and Hani Metwasi.

In 2011, the government revived the festival, which was first launched in 1981, after a four-year suspension.
