AMMAN — Jordan said Tuesday that it holds the Israeli government responsible for any violation of Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem since it is the occupation force.
Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Mohammad Momani said any attempt to raid the mosque by the Israelis or conducting excavations under the sanctuary are illegal, violating Islamic sanctities and the feelings of Muslims, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Momani said Jordan is doing all it can to preserve Islamic revered places and protect them, underlining an agreement His Majesty King Abdullah signed with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas last year under which the King was declared the custodian of the holy places in Jerusalem.
Jordan’s commitment to the cause of Jerusalem’s holy places is a duty and the Kingdom accepts no excuses when it comes to violations committed by any party.
Israeli settlers and security forces have frequently stormed Al Aqsa Mosque, which is administered by Jordanian awqaf officials.
