AMMAN — The Islamic Christian Commission for supporting Jerusalem and holy sites on Monday praised the recent actions taken by the Jordanian government to provide essential support to Jerusalemites by allowing them to obtain their necessary documents through applications to the Sharia Court in Jerusalem.

In a statement, the Commission underlined these new measures follow a recent decision by the Jordanian Cabinet to extend the reduction of passport fees for Jerusalemites, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The commission underlined that these initiatives reflect Jordan's commitment to supporting the resilience of Jerusalemites and alleviating their economic and everyday challenges, as they are facing “ongoing ethnic cleansing” in their city.

The commission expressed its gratitude for Jordan's unwavering support of the Palestinian Authority and the diplomatic efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah on supporting the Palestinian cause regionally and globally.

The statement also highlighted the vital role of the Hashemite Custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, in preserving these holy sites, especially the Al Aqsa Mosque, and safeguarding their legal and historical status quo.

The commission called upon Arab and Islamic nations to uphold their responsibilities towards Jerusalem and to provide full support to its people, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
