Islamic Centre Society ‘for all beneficiaries’ says head of administration

AMMAN — The head of the Islamic Centre Society’s temporary administrative body, Jamil Deheisat, said on Monday that the society was not owned by anyone.

Deheisat made his remarks during a press conference to address the society’s work, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He added that the society is for all beneficiaries of its programmes, work and national contributions, saying that it is also not politically linked and operates independently of any ideological or political disputes.

He stressed that attempts to link the society to an ideology or politically exploit it were unacceptable and inconsistent with the law governing it and with the Charitable Societies Law.

“We are not working in a vacuum, but in the light of deep national approaches we always seek to make a real contribution in the fields of development and national relief,” he said, adding that “we [have] established genuine and fruitful partnerships with local and international bodies, companies and institutions from the public and private sectors”.

During the presentation of the temporary administrative body’s achievements from 2013 to the end of 2017, Deheisat said that the body had operated with a budget of approximately JD80 million annually, noting that they have 4,000 employees working in the society.

He also noted that the number of economic projects the society handled increased to 2,154.

He underlined that the society, during the current administrative body, had adopted a strategy of expanding the establishment of productive workshops and focused on the importance of training courses, as well as support, protection and early childhood programmes.

Deheisat said that during the temporary body’s period of operation, the society implemented programmes that benefited more than 1,150,000 people and provided more than 1,637 jobs.
