AMMAN — The Irbid veterans and army retirees’ assembly on Saturday reasserted their support for His Majesty King Abdullah’s custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
A statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, said the assembly organised a celebration at the Barqash sports city commemorating the Karamah Battle and rejecting the Judisation of the Holy City, the alternative homeland (of Palestinians in Jordan) and the “deal of the century” (the US peace deal that is expected to be announced in June).
High-ranking military and government officials attended the celebration, including the commander of the Northern Military Zone, as well as retired senior officers. The attendees remembered the fallen soldiers who fought and gave their lives in defence of Jordan and Jerusalem.
Speakers reaffirmed the importance of solidarity and unity behind the King and “his unwavering stances and support for Jerusalem, Palestine and Islam”.
