AMMAN — Interior Minister Samir Mubaideen on Tuesday had a first-hand look at a project to enhance the capacity of the rainwater drainage system in downtown Amman, where floods inundated stores in previous years causing heavy economic losses.

The minister, who was accompanied by Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh, called for completing the project on schedule, noting that it will raise the municipality's readiness for the rainy season, particularly in areas that were hit hard by extreme weather conditions, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He commended the efforts of the Greater Amman Municipality and security agencies for their support.

For his part, Shawarbeh expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in the project, which includes the construction of box culverts from Al Husseini Mosque to the Hashemite Square in the centre of the capital that can carry high water flows during the rainy season.
